The last game of the season was full of excitement. Rival Northridge came to Layton ready to play. The Knights lead 6-0 at the end of the first quarter. Early in the second quarter they scored again going up 13-0. The Lancers answered as #19 Jason Taylor scored a touchdown off a 21 yard reception. The Lancers struggled in the third quarter which ended with Northridge up 21-7. The Layton football team was not about to quit. Although they allowed the Knights to score again, The Lancers were able to score twenty points. They were down by 8 with only a couple minutes left. #5QB Tayler Katoa was able to find his way into the end zone. The Lancers had the opportunity to go for two and send the game to overtime. Despite a great attempt, the game ended 28-26 Northridge. Layton showed that they don't quit no matter what the odds are. The Lancers have a lot to be proud of.
Cross Country had a remarkable and memorable day on October 13th when the girls team makes it to state! some of the best runners were Rindy Roos and Kiera Wall as they ran in the 5k run. For the boys team some of the top runners were Connor Jensen and Preston Capener. Good job to the boys and congratulations to the girls for making
The Layton Lancers volleyball team lost Tuesday’s away conference match against Viewmont by a score of 3-1.
The Cross country team met @ Davis at Nickels park on October 1st for what they treated as a practice meet because they were invited to run on a golf course Garland, Utah. Preston Stoddard for the boys achieved a personal record at Garland. For future plans the Cross Country team is getting ready for a meet on October 13th. This will then determine who will go to state. Go Cross Country!
With Steel Roberts' recent injury, Tayler Katoa has stepped up as the Lancers quarterback. He played in Layton's 32-13 loss to Viewmont.
The Layton Lancers volleyball team lost Thursday’s home conference match against Fremont by a score of 3-1.
Excitement and determination were abundant at the LHS football field as the kickoff for the big homecoming game neared. The Lancers defense came out strong only allowing 7 points in the first half. The offense was unable to score however and Layton went into halftime trailing by a touchdown. In the second half No.4 Koy Canon was able to make a catch in the end zone and put the lancers on the board. Although the game was well fought, Layton High could not prevail and lost the game 14-7. They now prepare to visit Viewmont on October 9th.
The Layton Lancers volleyball team lost Tuesday’s away conference match against Syracuse by a score of 3-2. With Layton winning the first two rounds, and a close 27-29 and 23-25 the third and fourth round. Then lost the battle with a 10-15 the fifth round.
Lancers were crushed by the Syracuse Titans 29-0 on September 26. The leading rusher for the lancers was #3 RB Keoni Larsen with 18 carries and 53 yards. Despite the effort, Layton was unable to put points on the board. After three losses in a row Layton plans to have a big homecoming win versus Weber. Students and players are determined to prove that they have a lot left in them.
With a season ending score of ten wins and four loses. We took third in region, and took 5 members to state (out of 7). All the seniors made academic all-region. Breanna Taylor had placed 2nd in region for doubles. Breanna gave a brief statement saying, “We gave amazing placements, and consisting.” Layton’s tennis played their all with Fremont getting a score of 2-6 7-6(7-4) 7-6(7-3). Competing against Davis we scored 7-5 6-7(4-7) 6-2. With a defeat against Viewmont we scored 0-6 2-6. Breanna Taylor said,” I think we could have done better, but we did place higher than Davis.” Get ready world because the Layton Girls Tennis Team will be back next year.
