Presently in 6th place and with the season coming to a close, Layton high golf team nor any individuals from the team will not be going to state this year. “We have a very good region. Region 1 is the best in the State. Last year at the state tournament the region finished 2nd, 3rd, 4th 5th, and 9th,” said golf coach Brian Beecher. Even though the team has struggled this year, the future is looking bright as the young aspiring players will be getting more practice and hopefully be more prepared to play next year.
The Lancers volleyball team lost Tuesday’s away conference match against Weber by a score of 3-2. The Lady Lancers put up a great fight on their second round getting 24-26. Then won the next two rounds and lost the lost 8-15 on their overtime round.
The Layton Lancers volleyball team lost Thursday’s home conference match against Northridge by a score of 3-0.
The Layton Lancer football team was trounced by Bountiful on the 19th of September. After coming off a defeat at Fremont the Lancers hoped to rebound in Bountiful. After a close first quarter, the game got away from Layton and they ended up losing 44-21. No. 5 QB Steel Roberts had 3 touchdowns and 2 interceptions. Layton High’s 3 road game streak is about to come to a close as they visit Syracuse this Friday. After losing two in a row, they will look for a victory before coming back to play at Layton for the big homecoming game on October 4th. #52 DT,C Spencer Davis, and #13 DB, WR Porter Stevens set up the defensive blitz to try and defend the Lancer name.
It was a memorable day for the Cross Country team as the girls placed second at the Davis County district championships. Varsity Rindy Roos, Sarina Rosado, and Haven Thorson scored in the top 15 for the girls in the 2.75 mile run. As for the boys, The top Varsity leaders for Layton were Ben Hirschi, Conner Jensen, and Spencer Toone. From JV girls Amberlee Barlow, Kelsey Olyer, and boys Rylan Heninger and Michael Toone all scored under 22 minutes in their cross country matches. The Lady Lancers played hard trying to get scores on the board, but ended up leaving with the score of 3-0. Davis having a 91.9 of successful, and powerful serving hits hit the girls in a brutal battle. Even with having a high 21.0 receptions per set, the girls fell behind and were not able to bounce back. Suzanne Kotoa, freshman, brought a huge asset to the team, with a high of 18 serving received successes.
Layton Lancers were shut down in Plain City facing the Fremont Silver Wolves. Despite #5 QB Steel Roberts 52 rushing yards the Lancers were unable to put any points on the board in a 21-0 loss to Fremont. On the other side, the Silver Wolves QB Justin Shaw threw three touchdown passes. After routing Clearfield 28-13 a week earlier, the Lancer football team found themselves shutout on September 12th against a tough opponent.

Layton battled Clearfield with a winning score of 28 to 13. The lancers started off with a touchdown made by No.4 receiver Koy Cannon with an eight yard pass from No. 5 QB Steele Roberts. No.3 Keoni Larsen had a big night with 207 rushing yards on 22 carries and two touchdowns. The defense managed to hold Clearfield to only 13 points and their late efforts lead to a big Layton win. On September 18th, Layton High Girls Volleyball started out strong, leading with 6 points. Viewmont came back to tie the set at 15-15, Layton answered with a 9-2 run – going on to earn the sweep 25-22, 25-20, 25-19. And with those strong plays over Viewmont, the Lady Lancers took the win against Viewmont, finishing with a 25-19. Senior Rylee Cate led with 8 digs, and 4 assists. Morgan, Utah: LHS played a fierce game of tennis against Morgan this Wednesday, Sept. 17th. Varsity brought home a win 4 to 1. Junior varsity played just as well with another win at 3 to 2. Unfortunately the sophomore team lost 2 to 3. We closed out the day with pride and two wins under our belt. It is good to be a Lancer.
