The Layton High Lancelles sure puts their all into their practices and performances. Not
only do they put in much effort, they enjoy each other’s company. All together
there’s 36 girls, 32 in military, 24 in dance, and 36 in kick. “We’re all like
a family. It’s like I have 36 sisters,” said Mckaila Carter, Junior about fellow drill teammates. “I love dancing and I wanted to do something in high school so I did drill,” Carter said of why she decided to join the drill team. “I love drill team because I have so many friends that I can hang out with every day,” Jacqueline Davis, Senior said of what she likes most about the drill team.The Layton High Drill team took 4th in Regionals, and 2nd place in Military. They compete in Hip-Hop, military, dance, and kick. They generally hire choreographers from around the state that can fit their needs for the particular dances. “I like our kick routine. It’s the black and white and it’s the most entertaining,” Davis continued. They learn their routines in the summer and practice them until they compete later in the year, in which they incorporate tricks like aerials and lifts. They performed in their State Championships at Utah Valley University on Friday, February 6th. “We don’t always like the results but I think we did really awesome. We did our best,” Davis concluded.
