Its 2015 and that means a new year of fun, challenges, and for the seniors the last
semester of high school before moving on to better things. Not only is it a New
Year but it’s that time again where people make New Year’s resolutions. Resolutions
aren’t just something we make. They are goals and wants or what we desire to
achieve. There are steps to a new year’s resolutions, making them, keeping up
with them and achieving them. Sound easy? Not so much. Many people have a hard
time keeping up with their resolutions.
According to statisticbrain.com 45 percent of Americans will make a resolutions. Only about 8 percent will achieve it. With the low percentage of achieving New Year’s resolutions is it really worth to make them? I asked Megan Seegmiller (Junior) what she thought about New Year’s resolutions and she replied “I think they are really awesome and they keep your life going.” When I asked Seegmiller on her thoughts about people breaking them she replied “I think people make there’s too high and they fail because of it.” She has the right idea, According to bulletproofexec.com one of the reasons why these goals fail is because people use guilt or fear as motivation. Sometimes when working on something it should come from your heart, using guilt will only make you want to achieve your goal less. Besides for that there are great goals you can make whether big, or small.
If there is one thing sometimes people forget to do it is to remember your goals don’t have to go to the extremes. Sometimes just changing something little can make a huge difference. WHNT news had an article about different New Year’s resolutions than the type you might hear. The first two things it listed in that article was getting some fresh air and sleeping more. You don’t have to make a major difference in your life every single New Year. It can be as simple as taking a walk everyday if weather permits or adding more sleep. These are things that can give confidence because they are achievable and still make an impact on your life. After you make your new year’s resolution there is a simple matter you want to do and that is keeping up with it.
Life.gaiam.com gave some great advice on how to keep up with the resolutions that you make.
For example, when it comes to resolutions if you are forming a habit it says it takes about 3 weeks for habits to stick. So one of the things you might want to do is planning ahead. It suggested you should plan your resolutions before
December 31st but if making it earlier didn’t work out still go for it! It’s always good to make goals. Today.com suggested some other ways to stay with goals. For example, if someone were to make a goal to get exercise often one of the things they can do is schedule it out. Probably better to have a plan rather than just “Winging it.” If you want to organize things try something small before you get to the bigger things because it will get people motivated. Motivation is a key to achieving things.
Achieving a resolution does take a lot of effort and motivation but it can be worth it. In a way a resolution is just like any goal. The only difference is New Year’s resolutions are of course made on New Year’s Eve/day. Don’t feel bad if it’s
difficult to keep up with a resolution. Many people have a hard time and if it doesn't work out make other goals to achieve desires. Today is a new day so take advantage of it and do something awesome. It’s a new year, a new day and
it is time to achieve. In the meantime let resolutions and goals help along the way because they indeed make a difference.
