Harper Lee to publish sequel to "To Kill a Mockingbird". To Kill a Mockingbird has been called a literary masterpiece and its author, Harper Lee now 88, has decided to publish a sequel to the critically acclaimed book. Go Set a Watchman is set to be released July 14 of this year. 55 years after To Kill a Mockingbird was published.
Go Set a Watchman is set 20 years after the events in To Kill a Mockingbird, Scout returns home to visit her father, Atticus Finch, in the town of Maycomb, Alabama. Go Set a Watchman was written by Lee in the 1950’s, before she wrote To Kill a Mockingbird. It was thought that the manuscript for Go Set a Watchman was lost or destroyed until recently when it was found by Lee’s friend and lawyer Tonja Carter
Harper Lee was wary about publishing the sequel at first. “After much thought and hesitation I shared it with a handful of people I trust and was pleased to hear that they considered it worthy of publication,” Lee was quoted saying.
Two million copies of Go Set a Watchman are planned to be printed and released on July 14, 2015, to the great anticipation of faithful fans of To Kill a Mockingbird. Be prepared to dive into another fantastic read.
